Red PSP Console

Features of the Red PSP Console

The red PSP does it all. Whether you want to fit a quick bout of a favourite game into your lunch break, watch one of your favourite films while travelling on the train to work, listen to your latest music tracks or look through your photo collection the versatile and stylish red PSP is for you.

Though primarily a gaming console, the engineers at Sony have managed to create a well rounded entertainment gadget. The red PSP can surf the web, play movies and music and even be part of a gaming network.

Multimedia

The red PSP console lets you listen to music, play slideshows of your photographs and watch movies. Music and photos can be easily transferred from the PC to the PSP using the built in media manager of the PSP.

The PSP with its wide screen and enhanced graphics takes the multimedia experience to an entirely new level. The only gripe: the UMD. The UMD is read only and hence cannot be reused to store media. Though Sony has made a wide variety of movies available on the UMD, the memory stick is the only option for storing the media locally. Hopefully the future releases will see a writable UMD.

Remote Play

Remote play allows the red PSP to act as a remote control to the PS3. Play music and movies, view photos and slideshows, even turn off and turn on the PS3 console via the WLAN, home network or the internet with this feature.

Skype on the Red PSP

The version 3.0 of the system software also supports SKYPE, the popular VoIP program. The system will need a headset or a microphone to be able to talk into.

Gaming on the Red PSP Console

A variety of games are available built specially or customized for the red PSP console. The console supports both the single player and multiplayer options. Most of the popular games like Grand Theft Auto, Midnight Club and SOCOM are available for the PSP.

Multiplayers can join in for a quick bout using the PSP’s local connectivity or jump on to the internet through a Wi-Fi hotspot for a complete multiplayer gaming experience.

PlayStation Store

Armed with a PlayStation Network account, you can login directly via the PSP to the Store and download music, movies, game demos and add-ons. You can also buy any of these media online using the same account.

DLNA

The Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) is a global collaboration of companies all working together to make electronic devices work together seamlessly. The DLNA certified PSP is able to connect to the TV, computer and digital video recorder. You can now play media from any device right on your PSP or even watch movies from the White PSP directly on the TV.

The Red PSP Console and its Internet connectivity

The red PSP console can connect to the internet using it's built in Wi-Fi capabilities. The browser of the PSP is an embedded micro browser. A scaled down version of the NetFront browser, the browser supports most web technologies like http cookies, CSS and JavaScript. Recent updates (v2.7) of the system software enable the device to even support flash. In order to display websites accurately, the browser can be adjusted for three modes:

1. Normal:
Normal displays the webpage as is. This usually requires scrolling in order to navigate through the page

2. Just Fit:
Just fit attempts to fit the entire web page in one screen by shrinking some of the elements in the page.

3. Smart Fit:
Smart Fit fits the page in one screen but without shrinking the elements. Instead in cases where the elements cannot fit into one page, they are placed one below the other.

The browser is excellent when it comes to displaying crisp images and the right colors. Even though the red PSP comes without a physical keypad, typing isn’t much of a problem. Shortcuts are provided for common strings like common strings such as http:// and .com which have been given their own keys. The PSP also remembers every website accessed and hence urls need not be typed completely after the first time.

The JavaScript and flash lend the web 2.0 feel to the internet browsing experience.
